Recently we looked at tests and other selection tools. As you go through the material for selection I encourage you to also source (e.g. from the internet) and analyse a wide range of tests used in selection. Many of you have possibly sat some of these tests before (e.g. a numeracy test when applying for a bank job or a personality test such as the Myers Briggs Personality Indicator). While some tests appear to be quite useful for selectors others suffer with poor reliability and validity. Be aware that many tests have drawbacks (e.g. faking, misuse...) and quite often the selectors make mistakes in how they use tests in selection (result interpretation, unqualified assessors...). As a rule of thumb the right tests can indeed be very useful tools for selectors, but they need to be used appropriately and in conjunction with other selection methods.
Continue to enjoy your week. I will continue to give you suggestions through announcements like this as you work online during this COVID 19 period.
If you have any questions about this topic or your assignment please feel free to get in touch.
